What is stored, and where

Two things are kept in your browser's local storage, which is not a cookie: it is never transmitted to us and never sent with a request.

NameWhat it isWhyHow long
occ-themeLight or dark, if you have used the toggleSo the site does not flash the wrong theme at you next visitUntil you clear site data
Sign-in sessionYour authentication token, in the signed-in product onlySo you are not asked to sign in on every pageUntil you sign out or it expires

Why there is no consent banner

Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, consent is required for storing information on your device unless it is strictly necessary for a service you asked for. A theme you chose by clicking the toggle, and a session that keeps you signed in, are both strictly necessary in that sense. Nothing else is stored, so there is nothing further to ask you about.

If we ever add analytics, this page will change and you will be asked properly before anything is set. We will not quietly start measuring you and describe it as essential.

Clearing it

Clearing site data for this domain in your browser removes both items. The theme falls back to your operating system setting and you will be asked to sign in again.

Server logs

Our hosting provider records ordinary request logs — IP address, time, page requested, user agent — for delivering the site and defending it against abuse. That is not done with cookies and is not used to build a profile of you.
