An honest comparison

Generic HR tools don't understand care. Care-record platforms don't handle the 6am staffing crisis. OnCall Care is the workforce layer built for both, and this page tells you plainly where each option wins - and when another platform is the better fit.

vs generic HR software

BrightHR is solid HR admin: leave, documents, clock-in, expenses. But it has no idea what a double-up visit, a PEG competency or a restricted client is. OnCall Care covers the same HR basics, and it runs your rotas, cover and compliance in care terms.

vs care-record platforms

Birdie, CareLineLive and Log my Care are strongest on digital care records and eMAR. None of them is built around the moment a carer calls in sick and a manager has 2 hours to fill the gap safely. That moment is what we're built for.

Run us alongside

Most of our providers start by running OnCall Care's on-call and HR layer alongside an existing care-records system, then decide what to consolidate. No 24-month contract makes that a low-risk experiment.

"Partial" means the capability exists in a limited form, requires an add-on, or serves a different purpose (e.g. BrightHR's Blip clock-in is geofenced to a workplace, not to each care client's home).

Straight answers

When you should pick someone else

Pick Birdie or Log my Care if…

Your most urgent need is digital care plans, eMAR and a family portal today - that's their core strength, and we run happily alongside them while handling your staffing.

Pick BrightHR if…

You mainly want a 24/7 employment-law advice line with HR software attached, and care-specific staffing isn't your problem. It's a genuinely useful service; we don't offer it.

Pick OnCall Care if…

Your pain is staffing: sickness at 6am, unsafe cover decisions, double-up visits going out half-staffed, training that's quietly expired, and no evidence trail when the inspector asks.

Or run both

Keep your care-records system for notes and eMAR; put OnCall Care underneath it for rotas, on-call, HR and evidence. At £2.50–£4.50 a carer, it costs less than one covered shift.

See the difference on your own rota

Bring last month's hardest gap and we'll walk it through live, next to whatever you use today.
